Vacation Alert!!!

A reminder for all my wonderful customers!

I will be off on my once a year and ever-so-splendiferous vacation around the end of October--usually coinciding with Halloween (And yes, at age 53, I still go Trick or Treating.)  The store is closed for that week, which also lets the wee shop rest a bit as well.  I take off for my beloved Northern Arizona where I sequester myself in a bungalow in Oak Creek Canyon, plant my ample behind in a deck chair, listen to the creek, watch the leaves fall, and feed the birds and squirrels like a crazy woman.  Nope, I don't answer the phone or the door.  At night, I build a huge fire in the fireplace, watch ghost-hunting shows on the TV and eat popcorn.  I go out into the world when I absolutely have to.  It is sheer bliss!  

So here is the vacation scoop for the shop:  

The shop will be closed from:

 Sunday, October 26th thru Tuesday, November 4th

I'll be back on Wednesday, November 5th.

(WOW!  That's the longest vacation I have ever had!)

So don't be dismayed or perturbed or even cranky if you go alll the way to Downtown Ventura, actually find a place to park, battle bums and vagrants with tin foil hats, then get to my door and I'm closed!  Oh, Little Ones, don't take it personally--I still love you!

Update: Well, Kiddies, it's now time to repave the streets!  You know--the streets that have been in disarray ALL SUMMER LONG?  I am told by "THE CITY" that they will begin that extravaganza on September 15th, but ohhhh, don't worry--they'll be doing most of it at night--as in "after 5:00 p.m. and finish before 10:00 p.m."  (Sure enough, this is not the case--didn't I tell ya?)  Gee, that sounds so stinkin' familiar.  Before they start ripping up the old asphalt and whipping out the Heavy-and-Very-Loud machinery (I hate to talk technical, here) to prepare the roads for new, lustrous, shiny asphalt, they will also be doing sidewalk repair and crosswalk improvements.  Then, of course, they'll have to paint the new, lustrous and shiny lines on the new, lustrous, shiny asphalt, so people won't careen aimlessly from side to side, all the way down the road, because they won't know which side to drive on without those all-important stripes.   All of this is suppose to be completed by mid-November, which is cutting things pretty darned close for the Holidays, don'tcha' think?.   

(SCOOP!  It is now October 23rd, and they have finished--I guess-- crosswalks but have yet to even begin laying down any new asphalt anywhere.  November is looming, and I just know they will start doing this right during Christmas, because, you know, the economy isn't bad enough so they want to shake things up a bit.  Jerks.... ) 

Lord help us....  

Please, Great Merciful Gods of the City of Ventura--PLEASE don't let this never-ending road project screw up our Christmas shopping season!!!!

Meanwhile, the multi-storied construction site that borders the alley between Main Street and Santa Clara Street is coming right along and may turn out to look pretty darned nice--and not the monstrosity that everyone was thinking it would be.  Whew.  Another bullet dodged!
