What are Orbs?
A lot of people have tried to explain what these odd balls of light are--dust, moisture, reflections--but none of these explanations are satisfactory. I have taken pictures with orbs in them with a digital camera, a disposable camera from Long's drugstore, an old 126 camera, and my fathers' even older 35 mm camera. I have taken pictures of orbs inside, outside, in clear weather, overcast weather and weather that crackled with 6% humidity. I have found old pictures taken in the 1970's that had an orb (or two) in them. I have tracked one orb in several consecutive pictures that starts in one place and dances up, down, and shuffles to the right (or left) before its inner light blinks out entirely. (That's one heck of an intelligent dust particle!) I have been annoyed by them popping up in pictures where I really only wanted to take a picture of my dog--and my dog only. After them intruding into family portraits and vacation scenery, I have grown to actually appreciate them, like old friends that pop in for a visit.
Some people think orbs are angels. Some think they are the spirits of departed loved ones. I tend to think they are just what they are--entities all of their own that just exist in nature. But who knows? Those that dismiss them as a mere pixel-anomaly or distortion of light are really missing something interesting, if not quaint.
