What to do in the garden this month

After a full moon, the garden seems to go dormant for a few weeks, then once the new moon has been the weeds seem to think that is a great time to appear! so some weeding is on the agenda for a while.

With the flu season ( did it ever go?) upon us. Coughs, runny noses, colds. I thought I would suggest some herbs that you may have in your garden or even pantry.

Plantain grows like a weed, that I love to use. Its antibacterial, has mucilage properties, soothing for the upper respiratory and lungs. Good for external inflammation too.

Garlic, ginger, lemon balm, honey, thyme, rosemary, borage, chamomile, elderberry (although this time of year has passed for the fruit or flower) all are good to help with coughs, runny noses and just that feeling that you could be coming down with something.

Gather what you have and let steep in boiling water. I like to leave it for 24hrs but half hour would be ok too. Add honey if you are using it at the end of the steeping. You can reheat to have it nice and warming. This would last in your fridge for a good week. Take about a good tablespoon once or twice a day or when needed.

Get growing some Echinacea for next season!
